The Grade 3 class started their creation studies off with a unit called “The Trees of the Field”. The unit’s theme verse is “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12.
As part of this unit, a Dwarf Alberta Spruce was adopted for the class. She has become an integral part of learning all about trees. The class has been studying her as well as her friends out front of our building and in our neighbourhoods. She just joined our last year’s tree friend, Ever in front of our building.
As part of this process we asked our social media followers for some naming suggestions. Here is a list of what they came up with:
-Spomenka (the Spruce) – This is a Slavic name meaning “souvenir” or “memory”
-Mrs. Gloin – after Gimli the dwarf’s mother
-‘Lil Alberta, of course
-Anne of Green Gables
-Fern Evergreen
-“Laurel” This can mean: bestow an award or praise on (somone) in recognition of an achievement or an aromatic evergreen shrub. The praise can be for the Grade 3 class taking care of the weather and then the shrub meaning is obvious 🙂
-Hope – for every student that is educated and graduates through this school that they will shine for Jesus wherever they go
Our Grade 3 favourite was Laurel and they added Sequoia after the church that worships in our building every Sunday.
Thank you Grade 3! We are delighted that you are learning about God’s creation.
