The Recent History of OCS
Sept/00 - Long-range planning committee formed.
March/01 - Board proposes sending grades 7 & 8 to Redeemer Christian High School to deal with space requirements. Motion turned down.
Fall/01 - Series of Town Hall meetings results in membership request to pursue purchase of existing school building.
Feb/02 - Facilities Planning Committee (FPC) finds vacant school close to OCS to be used as second campus. Membership approves putting unsolicited bid—denied by vendor. Option no longer viable.
May/02 - Board directs FPC to find vacant land in Barrhaven/Kanata - nothing available within urban Ottawa.
Jun/02 - Potential sites reviewed, interest in Barrhaven site.
July/02 - Architect commissioned to develop site plan, discussion re services begin with the City.
July/03 - FPC puts offer on land subject to membership approval. Membership approval to purchase 16 acres.
Nov/03 - OCS takes ownership of 16 acres along Strandherd Drive. Dedication service held on Nov 29.
Spring/04 - 5 acres (odd shaped portion) sold to land developer.
Spring/07 - Membership approval to move entire school to Barrhaven.
Sept/07 - Membership accepts an offer from a purchaser for the existing OCS facility.
December/08 - Membership approves sale of 3.84 acres on Tartan Drive, agreement in progress.
June/09 - Membership approval to commence building.
June 11,2009 - Ground Breaking Ceremony at 255 Tartan.
June 11, 2010 - New Building Dedication and Ribbon Cutting.
